About Electrical Engineering

Electrical engineering –as the name itself suggests- is a branch of engineering that is all about making and operating electronic devices. Basically, it studies uses and applications of electricity, electro-magnetism and electronics, right from pocket calculators to the present generations.

The computer or mobile screen on which you are reading this exists because many years ago, scientists discovered electricity and devised ways to utilise it. In simple words, electrical engineering teaches how to study electricity, how it can be used for different purposes and the different equipment in which its used.
Electricity is such a powerful resource and its uses are so many that a number of sub disciplines have branched out in it.  Some of them are Electronics, Microelectronics, Signal Processing, Telecommunications and Computers.
In addition to those sub disciplines mentioned above, electrical engineering often encompasses two other related disciplines, where despite not being the main thrust, it is are often used as a sub discipline. These include:
Mechatronics
Biomedical engineering
Students enrolling into electrical engineering courses usually gain a deeper understanding about electrical networks, electrical energy distribution systems, computer fundamentals and electromagnetic theory, as well as various devices. Electronics, Energy resources and Conversion, Electromagnetic Field Theory, Applied Instrumentation, Microprocessors and peripheral devices are some of the subjects that this study touches upon.
