Indian Institute Of Technology, Delhi (IIT Delhi)

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is one of the fifteen IITs created to be Centres of Excellence for training, research and development in science, engineering and technology In India.Established as College of Engineering In 1961, the Instiute was later declared as an Institution of National Importance under the "Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963" and was renamed as "Indian Institute of Technology Delhi'. It was then accorded the status of a Deemed University with powers to decide its own academic policy, to conduct its own examinations, and to award its own degrees.

Campus

Ranking
The institute has been ranked at the 2nd position at an all India level. Getting into this college is not easy since students are required to first clear JEE mains and then the JEE advanced. Selection is strictly on merit basis. The level of competition is such that more than 6,00,000 students appear for about 10,000 engineering seats through this entrance exam.
Campus Infrastructure
The IIT Delhi campus is a lovely lush green place in spite of the Delhi heat. The library, which is fully airconditioned, is well stocked. It’s only open till 8 pm, except during exam times when it stays open till about 12 midnight. The campus is completely WiFi enabled. Most laboratories are airconditioned as well. But classrooms and hostels don’t get such privileges.
Hostels
There are 13 hostels (eleven for boys and two for girls). There are also apartments for married students. All the hostels are named after mountain ranges in India and the residential apartments are named after ancient Indian universities. Each hostel has its distinct culture of sports and cultural activities. Hostels compete in inter hostel events to bring home various trophies. The academic year ends with an annual function of hostels known as 'House day'.
 
Placement
IT Delhi has been critically acclaimed across borders with its renowned alumni holding international positions. It is now recognized as the No.1 Educational Institute of India. The foundation stone of IIT Delhi was laid in 1959 with the collaboration of UK Government and the Federation of British Industries in London. Getting its first admission in 1961 and being recognised as Institute of national importance in 1963, IIT Delhi has witnessed unprecedented success across various fields, not limited to engineering even though it is quite young as compared to some of the global universities.
Faculty
Every faculty member of the institute holds a PhD from IIT or from a reputed university. They are all highly experienced and are actively involved in research. They are fantastic teachers too, and students are full of praise for them.
Facilities

Central Research Facility:
A Central Research Facility is of utmost importance in any academic institution where state-of-the-art analytical and high-end instruments are manned by qualified personnel to provide scientific and technical services to research students and project students. Such a facility represents a key commitment for preserving and raising the efficiency of research to the international standards. In this connection, an independent building at Sonipat Campus has been planned to house the most modern equipment to service users of the ever expanding number of UG and PG students and researchers with various needs. A future endeavor will be to make this facility available to other academic and research institutions, industries and organizations in the neighborhood.
High Performance Computing:
You will need an ssh client to connect to the cluster. CPU login is available through ssh hpc.iitd.ac.in (Use IITD credentials). To copy data use scp to hpc.iitd.ac.in. GPU or Mic (Xeon Phi) nodes can be directly accessed through gpu.hpc.iitd.ac.in and mic.hpc.iitd.ac.in respectively. Please avoid using gpu and mic for large data transfer.
Nanoscale Research Facility:
The nanoscale research facility has been established with the support from Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeiTy) and IIT Delhi to support the interdisciplinary research in the area of nanoscience and nanotechnology. The facility consists of class 100/1000 clean rooms with several state of the art fabrication/thin film deposition instruments and characterization laboratories . The research program of the center has been focused on both thematic areas of national importance and basic research with importance to the development of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. More than 50 faculty members from various Departments /Centres of IIT Delhi are participating in cutting edge research at Nanoscale Research Facility.
DAILAB:
The Department of Biotechnology of India (DBT) and National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST, Japan) have established a new joint research laboratory, named DBT-AIST International Laboratory for Advanced Biomedicine (DAILAB) at AIST Tsukuba and RCB, India. AIST President Dr. Ryoji Chubachi and DBT Secretary Prof. K. VijayRaghavan signed the joint research contract and the opening ceremony was held on October 3, 2013, at AIST Tsukuba.
